Educational pathways to equity: A review of global outreach and bridge practices and policies that promote successful participation in tertiary education
Global efforts to widen participation in tertiary education, especially among populations
historically denied access or opportunity, have brought about an array of programs and policies to ensure disadvantaged students aspire to, plan for and succeed in tertiary education. Through the creation of outreach, partnership and bridge programs, many countries have taken positive steps towards expanding the educational pathways available to its most vulnerable populations.
This report provides a meta-analysis of the global practices related to outreach and bridges
between tertiary institutions and primary/secondary education. By providing a map of the
practices and policies used worldwide, this report offers concrete strategies for practitioners and a framework for policymakers to use in considering areas for reform. The report concludes with gaps in practice and areas that warrant future attention, support and research.
